Established in 2005, Lines West Model Railroaders is building a two-level, HO-scale model railroad, combining tried-and-true with the latest in construction techniques.

Our layout is still under construction, and the upper level began operation in March 2008. The layout has two levels with trains transitioning between levels using a helix. Hidden set-up and staging tracks will allow for a continuous stream of different trains to enter and exit the layout. Operators will guide the trains over our eight scale miles of track using wireless DCC throttles. A dispatcher will use a computer and radio to control and direct train movements -- assisted on the layout itself by operating signals.

The theme of our layout is the Midwest and various scenes will be reproduced in miniature. The upper level will feature primarily country/rural with some city scenes -- about an 80/20 mix. The lower level is the opposite with about an 80/20 city/country mix. The lower level will also feature a large freight yard and a passenger terminal.

Visitors are welcome on Friday nights -- we are typically open between 8-10pm. If the light is on outside our door please come in and visit. We are located in the basement of the building at the northeast corner of York and 1st Street in Elmhurst. Our entrance is on the east side of the building on 1st -- look for our sign and take the stairs down. The Metra Union Pacific West Line commuter station is located just across the street.

Before layout construction could commence we had to rehab the room we are in. Due to the enthusiasm of club members (and a few volunteers from other clubs) the room took on a new life in just five months.
